Market Intelligence

In response to the industry call to provide greater comprehension to the scope of this emergent market opportunity, Lighting Africa is supporting the industry by leading a Market Intelligence Program to collect and disseminate critical market information to the industry.

While anecdotal evidence points to a substantial opportunity and entrepreneurial interest in the off-grid Lighting market in Africa, many eager players in the industry lack the market intelligence needed to develop and disseminate appropriate products to meet the needs of African consumers.  Largely, this is the result of the sheer infancy of this market, one that expects to deliver strong returns on investment but, at present, remains largely undefined, untapped, and unrealized.

Lighting Africa’s market intelligence program is presently working to fill knowledge gaps in the following two key areas:

MARKET RESEARCH: to collect and disseminate needed end-user information, including, but not limited to:

  • Information to define the African consumer, including design preferences and attributes of different types of lighting products within several different product classes (Torch, Floodlight, Task Light, Lantern, Spot Light)
  • Information Consumer demographics- including current lighting habits, consumer demographics, etc.
  • Information that will create a baseline to quantify the size of potential market segments for appropriate lighting products in volume and value terms

IDENTIFICATION OF DISTRIBUTORS AND DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS: for disseminating off-grid lighting products to the African marketplace.

  •  If you are an established distributor or if you are interested in becoming a distributor of off-grid lighting products to the African marketplace, please identify yourself as a distributor when you JOIN.  If you are already a Lighting Africa member and are interested in being identified as a distributor, please update your profile so that other members may establish partnerships with you to distribute their products.
