What are the QTM test procedures? What tests will my product undergo if submitted to Lighting Africa?
What are the benefits of testing my product and what can I expect to receive if my product passes the minimum performance requirements after being tested under the QTM?
QTM results are used for program entry in the Lighting Africa program and can also be used to qualify for carbon credit applications through the UNFCCC.
Do I have to pay a fee if I want to submit a product for the LA-QTM test?
Yes, the fee for testing depends on the test lab and the required extent of QTM testing. Currently, Lighting Africa is co-financing the cost of testing under the QTM for qualified products. More details on the Lighting Africa co-financing program are available here.
Do I send a product sample directly to Lighting Global through the mail?
No. In order to make sure that the products tested are representative of the products available in the marketplace, 17 units of each product will be selected from commercial markets or from a warehouse or factory at the point of production or assembly. These samples will then be packaged and shipped to the testing laboratory.
After I submit by product(s) for testing, when can I expect to get the test results back?
The results are typically ready approximately five months from the time products are sampled.
Which laboratories are approved to perform the QTM? The following laboratories are presently approved to conduct LA’s LA-QTM:
- The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Germany)
- The Schatz Energy Research Center, Humboldt State University (USA)
- The Lighting Research Center, Rensselaer University (USA)
