Lighting Africa works to provide working capital and trade finance to manufacturers and distributors. For example, by providing commercial financing institutions with information, training, wholesale capital, and risk mitigation instruments to help them improve access to finance for stakeholders along the supply chain.

In addition, outreach to specialized funds in the energy sector is also underway. Lighting Africa also explored the potential for financing and risk-sharing arrangements to help consumer goods companies and service organizations offer off-grid lighting products through their retail channels. By investing in a first-loss partnership to facilitate the acquisition of low-cost, off-grid lighting products through micro-finance institutions (MFIs) or commercial banks, these companies stand to gain from the increased access to lighting product by people at the base of the pyramid.
